This sculpture is characterized by a strong artistic expression of its author aimed at launching a general critic towards war, its destruction of human lives and destroying natural and cultural heritage in Croatia during Homeland War.

In a sign of open protest, the sculpture has been featured in January 1991 in front of the building of the National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka, and reposed in Gradec (Zagreb) as a part of an exhibition entitled Oči istine (Eyes of Truth) in Zagreb gallery Klovićevi dvori.

For this occasion, the poet Liljana Domić wrote a sonnet:

Apage Satanas

Citadela mrtvih, groblje od starine,
mjesto svetih sjena, istine domaja,
ondje zrno vrijesa pada na lumine
navijek podstičući i plama i sjaja

povijesti Hrvata; gdje uz suhozide
dahom drevnog doma diše mažurana.
Tu je neman ljuta od paklene krivde
dirnula u kosti. U zemlji se rana

razvaljenog groba sažela do krika.
Zlom oskvrnjene kosti mučenika
vraćaju pamćenje na iščezlu krunu;

Osnaženi preci izlaze iz mraka,
Na zgaženom grobu poznati ćeš znaka.
Srušeni zvonici zvone na uzbunu.
